What is PQQ? 

PQQ full name is pyrroloquinoline quinone, a red compound that is a vitamin and nutrient that can accelerate the body's metabolic processes and promote the growth and division of human cells.

PQQ is an essential nutrient factor for animal reproduction, growth and development, and is also considered to be a bioactive substance with the strongest catalytic REDOX reaction ability, which is widely distributed in nature and rich in food sources. Because of its unique physical and chemical properties, its effects in scavenging free radicals, anti-oxidation, inhibiting inflammatory response, anti-apoptosis, regulating mitochondrial function and energy metabolism, nutrition and promoting growth, and its effects in preventing and treating heart disease, liver disease, nervous system diseases, osteoporosis and cancer and other multi-system and multi-organ related diseases, It has good application prospect and broad market prospect in medicine, food and agriculture.

PQQ exists widely in microorganisms, plants, animals and humans. In Gram-negative bacteria, PQQ is synthesized with tyrosine and glutamic acid as substrates and functions as cogroups. Although some intestinal bacteria cannot synthesize PQQ, they can synthesize PQQ-dependent proteins, and when exogenous PQQ is ingested, it can be combined with it to form active whole enzymes. Therefore, appropriate intake of PQQ is of great significance for maintaining a good intestinal environment.

PQQ's function:

1. Scavenging free radicals, anti-oxidation
The ability of PQQ to remove free radicals is very powerful, 50-100 times higher than ascorbic acid, and can directly remove excess free radicals without relying on Glutathione (GSH).

2. Suppress inflammation
Studies have found that PQQ can inhibit the reaction of NF-κB (p65) as the triggering mechanism, and inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory factors IL-6 and TNF-α, thereby reducing neuroinflammation.

3. Regulating mitochondrial function
Mitochondria are substances that can prevent ROS damage, increase energy metabolism and prolong life. In vivo studies have found that the addition of micromolar concentration or milligram level of PQQ per kilogram of diet is sufficient to stimulate mitochondrial biogenesis.

4. Anti-apoptosis
Studies have shown that PQQ can effectively reduce the damage of glutamic acid or N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) on hippocampal neurons and cerebral cortex, and inhibit the occurrence of apoptosis.
